PERSONAL FINANCE CREDIT: RESOURCES I'VE ACTUALLY USED
Last year I taught Personal Finance for our co-op, pulling from a mix of free platforms to build the course. Here's what worked, in case you're piecing together credit for your own high schooler. Most of these work great as a grab-and-go standalone course if you want something with zero planning required — or mix and match pieces from each to build something more custom.
Intuit for Education
Totally free, and built by the people behind TurboTax and QuickBooks — so the tools feel real, not simulated. Covers budgeting, saving, credit, and taxes, including a TurboTax practice simulation where kids file a fake W-2. Good for hands-on learners who want to "do" the thing, not just read about it.
NGPF – Next Gen Personal Finance
The gold standard many public schools use for their required Personal Finance courses with 65+ full lessons, plus an "Arcade" of finance games kids actually enjoy. Free with a teacher account (parent-teachers qualify). Robust enough to be your entire course on its own.
Banzai
Interactive, scenario-based learning — kids get a fake bank account and have to navigate real-life curveballs (surprise bills, parking tickets, interest charges) while managing a budget. Print workbooks available too if you want an offline option.
EVERFI: Financial Literacy for High School
Free, self-paced, and used by hundreds of thousands of students nationally. Bite-sized modules cover banking, credit, insurance, and paying for college. Ends with a completion certificate — a nice paper trail for your records, and an easy one to hand a kid and walk away.
PragerU Kids – Financial Literacy 101
A video-based series that's been approved in some states for a half financial-literacy credit. Quick to work through and easy to pair with a workbook or discussion questions if you want more depth. Worth knowing this one leans toward PragerU's typical editorial style, so preview if that matters to your family.
